HHCH's event to celebrate Futures FC and promote mental health awareness
We are running an event on the 10th of December at Crystal Bar (23-32, Carver Street, Sheffield, S1 4FS) to celebrate the incredible journey of the Sheffield community against drug addiction and mental illness - in particular by the efforts of the Futures Football Club!
Who are Futures Football Club?
Futures Football Club is a non-profit community group dedicated to helping people in their recovery from addiction and mental challenges. They have helped many men - young and old, in recovery by creating a safe space to connect with others. According to a Ted Talk by Johann Hari, "the opposite of addiction is not sobriety, it's connection". This brilliant remark goes against common social perceptions to reach a pragmatic solution for recovering addicts. Futures FC hosts regular games and social events for these men to fight against isolation, and have helped the Sheffield community tremendously - a cause that Helping Hands proudly supports.
The ultimate aim of the non-profit is to provide a space for people to form connections and have positive experiences that will aid recovery and drive them towards bigger and brighter futures.
We have further created a fundraiser to support this inspiring group in their journey! If you would like to support this cause, please visit our fundraiser page here.
Join our event to help the Sheffield community celebrate Futures FC's incredible journey!
To celebrate the success of Futures FC and the incredible work they do to support young men through addiction recovery and mental health challenges, Helping Hands Community Hub is running a fundraiser and FREE Mental Health Awareness training course which will help members of our community to understand the current mental health crisis as well as delving deeper into common mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, dementia, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.
Through this course participants will gain all the knowledge and skills to be able to effectively understand and support those with mental health conditions and make our community a safer and more understanding space for everyone.

The mental health awareness training event will feature exclusive mental health themed artwork created by local artist Euphoric Recall which will be available for purchase at the event. Euphoric Recall is a Hull-based recovering addict who channels his journey into beautiful pieces of abstract art. In his words:
"I've been in some really isolated places in my life, and I don't want any one to feel like they don't belong. Art is a great way to build community, find common ground and express the beauty and difficulty of life."
Additionally, following the mental health training and celebrations of Futures FC is all their endeavours, professional musician Harrison Rimmer will be delivering a very special performance to support our local community!
